This is a free for all. We all have things which really annoy and aggravate us, or a view we would like to share, and this is the place.
As long as it's PG13, anything goes, rant or rave, this is a place for open speech

So Im gonna start this with a big hate of mine........ Political spin on tragedy.
In the last few weeks we have seen so many tragic events in the news, and for each one the political parties have been pointing the finger at each other. Today it was Labour leader Jeremy Corbin trying to lay the blame for the tower block fire at the feet of the tories.
The reality here is that no matter who says what, 200 fire fighters turned out to fight that blaze, and were on the scene within minutes. No amount of extra fire fighters could have prevented it happening. The materials used in the cladding are appearing to be to blame, these met with current building regs and are still now considered legal to use. The cladding was selected based on price and look, this was not the choice of any political party, but local council staff, in line with their obligation to provide best value for tax payers money.
Its likely over 100 people have died in this event, and I think it is disgusting to use this to try to score point by pointing fingers.
We need to be looking at the lessons to be learned from this, and moving on trying to prevent the same thing happening again, not arguing about who should have done what in hind sight.

Ok, so I am going to get on my soapbox now and have a little moan about something I saw this morning that aggravated me.
So I am scrolling through Facebook and see a post shared. A woman in a bathing suit. Now this in itself didn't annoy me, nor did the reason behind the share. The share was in support of this woman who had be described as "big" and absolutely right it should have been shared, because this woman could not be described as "big" in the slightest! She was beautiful. Sure, she was curvy, but she looked like a real woman!
This is what annoys me! Body shaming. Women are scrutinized for how they look, constantly. The huge increase in social media has created this obsession with how women look. Too fat, too skinny. Too tall, too short. Too fake, too natural. It's not healthy!
This woman didn't have an overhanging stomach, she had curves. She had boobs bigger than a 5 pence piece and legs thicker than pencils. This apparently makes her "big" or should we say fat? Because let's face it, big is just the kinder word for fat! I'm 27. I have never been skinny and have always been body shamed as a result. Now fair enough, I was not a healthy size and I changed that. It is still a work in progress. But if I ever wound up looking like the woman I saw the picture of this morning, I'd be proud! I wouldn't see myself as fat or even big and it would destroy me to have people say that about me.
When are we going to learn that all we are achieving by shaming women is causing this epidemic of girls and young women with eating disorders and obsessions over how they look.
Be happy with yourselves. If you are unhappy, change it FOR YOU! Don't change yourself based on other people's opinions on what you should look like.
We need to change how we view others and just accept people for who they are!
Rant over!

I hear you! I saw that photo.. I thought she was gorgeous and would love to have a body like hers!
My son has been classed as borderline obese by the school nurse...hes 5 and in my opinion looks like a 5 year old. NOt an ounce of fat on him. So not only are we bodyshaming adults but now children too....and its the professionals whom are the ones most guilty!
Im overweight sure but would nt say I was huge but based on my BMI I too am classed as obese. My mother...all 9 stone of her and with the body fat of an anorexic flea is apparently hovering at the overweight mark based on percentages and charts and figures all dreamt up by some dr trying to make a name for himself.
I have been told Im overweight by a dr whom had more rolls of fat hanging off his stomach then a walrus... whom after reducing me to tears about the way I looked and blaming my genetic foot defect on my weight patted his tummy and said "yeah I know practise what I preach" and laughed. Grrrrrr.....
I have a huge bugbear with drs and dentists whom go on and on about smoking and all its risks ((which I fully agree with)) but then go outside and light up on their breaks. Hypocritical much???

Well this all comes down to BMI, which is some american doctors equation for working out what the ideal body should look like.
Anyone who knows me is well aware of my disdain for this system, more now than ever! I am in pretty much the best shape of my life, I have what I think is good muscle tone, I'm at what I consider to be a good weight at 13st 10oz, and I stand 6ft 1in tall. I have a 6 pack, my veins stand a little proud of my skin, so my fat levels are extremely low. Yet despite all this I am still over weight according to the BMI scale.
Personally I like real women, always have, always will, I reposted the thing on facebook this morning as I think its disgusting. I think its disgusting that a school nurse can call a 5 year old with better muscle definition than me obese, the boy is still growing, his body will continue to change and grow for the next 20 years yet.

So not only are we bodyshaming adults but now children too....and its the professionals whom are the ones most guilty! I find this absolutely ridiculous! I've seen that boy and you're right, there isn't an ounce of fat on him! It is disgusting that we have taken to shaming 5 year old children because of their bodies! The BMI system needs to change! We need to start taking into account muscle mass, bone density and general health and activity levels instead of just height and weight! According to the BMI system, I am obese. My ideal weight is between 9st 1lb and 10st 5lb. I know me and I know my body. If I drop down to 10st I will look unhealthy. Fact! I am heavy set. Large bone density means that I won't ever look right at 10st! So something has to give. We cannot keep treating people and labeling people with a massively outdated method.

who are we to judge, at the end of the day BMI is a new concept, its only been around a couple of decades, prior to that this wasn't an issue. During the 40s 50s 60s pinups were normal girls, not these stick thin anorexics that are so worshiped these days, and guys didn't have a 6 pack or bulging biceps, they simply had a natural body tone

my whinge of the day
sons school trip to a local farm.. 30 degrees plus outside yet we parents are told to dress kids in full uniform including jumper and a raincoat(!) whilst dressing him this morning get a txt message from the school stating due to hot weather boys may wear shorts rather then previously requested long trousers (ticks, mud, cow poo etc) however school uniform issued shorts only in grey or black. We dont have any of these so I keep him in trousers so not to flout uniform rules which could result in him being sent home for the day and missing his trip. however with me having common sense tie his jumper around his waist and leave the raincoat at home.
we get to school. every other kid girls and boys are wearing shorts. are they wearing school issued black or grey approved uniform shorts?? are they heck! we have pink shorts and blue shorts, PE shorts, even shorts with glittery bits and cartoon characters really annoyed

I do not miss the days when my 3 were at school at all. Seems like its one rule for some parents and another for the others. Good on you at least for respecting the rules
